This Privacy Policy explains how the website at youthblazer.com (the “Site”), operated on behalf of Caleb Holland (referred to as “we”, “us” or “our”), collects, uses, shares and protects information about you (“you”, “your”) when you visit the Site or interact with us.
Because Caleb is a young author and many of our visitors are children, we take privacy — and parental involvement — very seriously. If you are under 16, please read this policy together with a parent or guardian.
1. Who we are
The Site is operated on behalf of Caleb Holland, a young author and reading advocate. For privacy enquiries please email calebtheauthor2025@gmail.com.
2. The information we collect
We collect only the information we need to run the Site and respond to enquiries:
- Information you give us when you fill in a contact form, nominate a Youth Trailblazer, sign up for the Reading Initiative, or email us — typically your name, email address, country, and any message you write.
- Information collected automatically when you browse, such as your IP address, device type, browser, the pages you visit, and the time you spend on them. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see our Cookie Policy).
- Information from third parties when you arrive via a link, share content on social media, or buy the book through a retailer such as Amazon. We do not receive your payment details from those retailers.
3. How we use your information
- To respond to messages, school visit requests, media enquiries and Trailblazer nominations.
- To send you updates about the book, the Reading Initiative or new posts — only if you have asked us to.
- To improve the Site, understand which content is most useful, and fix technical problems.
- To protect the Site from spam, fraud and abuse.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
4. Lawful basis for processing (UK / EU visitors)
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on the following lawful bases:
- Consent — for non-essential cookies and marketing emails. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Legitimate interest — for site security, anti-spam, basic analytics, and replying to your enquiry.
- Legal obligation — where the law requires us to keep records.
5. Children’s privacy
Caleb’s audience includes children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (in the US, under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act — COPPA) or under the age of 16 (in the UK and EU) without verifiable parental consent.
- Children under those ages should only use the contact form, nomination form or Reading Initiative sign-up with a parent or guardian’s help.
- If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us without parental consent, please email calebtheauthor2025@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
- We never sell or share children’s information for advertising.
6. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We only share it with:
- Service providers that help us run the Site — for example, our website host, email provider, analytics tool, and spam-filtering service. They are only allowed to use your information to provide their service to us.
- Authorities, where required by law or to protect our rights.
7. International transfers
Some of our service providers are based outside the UK and EU. Where that happens, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place (such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or EU Standard Contractual Clauses).
8. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it, and then we delete it or anonymise it. For most contact-form messages this is no longer than 24 months.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete your information.
- Object to or restrict how we use it.
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time (this won’t affect anything we did before you withdrew it).
- Complain to a data-protection authority — in the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
To exercise any of these rights, email us at calebtheauthor2025@gmail.com. We will reply within 30 days.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your information safe. No system can be 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work hard to protect your data.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on the Site for at least 30 days.
